Complex Simplicities

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand, like the electricity grid. It is a paradigm shift following the shift from mainframe to client. Details are abstracted from the users who no longer have need of expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them. Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves the provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources as a service over the Internet.

HD Display

High-definition Display (or HDTV, or just HD) refers to video having resolution substantially higher than traditional television systems. HD has one or two million pixels per frame, roughly five times that of SD. Early HDTV broadcasting used analog techniques, but today HDTV is digitally broadcast using video compression. High definition television is popular because it offers a brighter, clearer picture resolution and works well with a surround sound audio system.

Joseph Niepce developed the world's first photographic image in 1827. Thomas Edison and W K L Dickson introduced the film camera in 1894. But the first projection of an image on a screen was made by a German priest. In 1646, Athanasius Kircher used a candle or oil lamp to project hand-painted images onto a white screen.
A flute made of bone is the oldest playable musical instrument in the world. It’s a flute carved from a bird’s wing bone more than 9,000 years ago. The flute was discovered with other flutes at an ancient burial site in China.
The "natural alarm clock" (which enables some people to wake up more or less when they want to) is caused by a burst of the stress hormone adrenocorticotropin. Researchers say this reflects an unconscious anticipation of the stress of waking up. Tiny luminous rays from a digital alarm clock can be enough to disrupt the sleep cycle even if you do not fully wake. The light turns off a "neural switch" in the brain, causing levels of a key sleep chemical to decline within minutes.

Tele- Education in India

Introduction

Scope of Tele- Education

The network will provide e-Services with priority on tele-education and tele-medicine services, and VVIP connectivity (for Video-conferencing and VoIP services) among the Heads of States.
Teacher will be able to interact with the selected students in a sequence and also simultaneously collaborate with them using the collaborative tools; return IP link will provide audio, video and data connectivity to the university studio and enable students to have a live interaction. Remote location will easily become a teacher to all the connected users seamlessly using the return link. All the studios shall be controlled and managed by the Central Hub for management, scheduling, broadcasting, review learning process etc. All the learning centers will act as virtual classrooms and also can be network-enabled for further expansion.
The network is designed to have 159 VSAT based centres (5 UCs, 5 SSHs, 53 LCs, 53 PEHs, and 53 VVIP Nodes) and a satellite hub station to deliver the services mentioned above. The proposed network utilizes state-of-the-art technology and can be integrated with the latest technologies. The network is scalable to support different applications catering to increased number of users.
Advantages
Direct feed-back from students to teacher
Personal contact of the student with the research community where (s)he can find the motivation for a research and teaching career.
Social and cultural activities characteristic of University life, while experiencing the advantages of using the new technologies to:
Enlarge the spectrum of subjects that can be learned
Learn in a more interactive way than sitting in lectures
Abolish the time and distance constraints
Future of Tele-education
While the educational institutions of the country have continuously endeavored to use the satellite-based connectivity to support the process of education, the demands have been increasing, with the challenge of the day being to stay updated with the changing trends. To support the growing demand, ISRO has recently launched ‘EDUSAT’ with its own launch vehicle (GSLV) – a satellite exclusively dedicated to cater to the educational sector. This satellite provides six C- Band and one Ku- Band national beam and five Ku- Band regional beams facilitating imparting of education in the regional languages. EDUSAT, through digital connectivity, strengthens education efforts by creating virtual interactive classrooms at far away places augmenting curriculum-based teaching, providing effective teacher training and community participation, increasing access to education and to newer technologies through a effective ground segment configuration. ISRO has already taken up several initiatives on a pilot basis to ensure utilization of EDUSAT. Through the concept of Tele-education, the teaching expertise in metros is made available to those in far-flung areas.

Conclusion

In the present day scenario, tele-education is important for the under-developed and developing countries as it has the potential to expose the student for the multifarious learning experiences and opportunities that challenge and maximize learning potential. Unlike the traditional learning system, here the learner has to take the responsibility of learning effectively and has to prepare himself for better interaction with the teacher during the session. It also enables students/learners to grow in a holistic way, interacting with successful professional, thus inspiring and boosting enthusiasm of the students. The ultimate aim of tele-education system is to transform the student community from reactive to interactive and from interactive to proactive and make them ignited. It serves as an excellent medium to develop capacity building for the region where education through electronic means can promote the well-being and development of the people.

Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves the provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources as a service over the Internet. It is a byproduct and consequence of the ease-of-access to remote computing sites provided by the Internet.
The term "cloud" is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on the cloud drawing used in the past to represent the telephone network, and later to depict the Internet in computer network diagrams as an abstraction of the underlying infrastructure it represents. Typical cloud computing providers deliver common business applications online which are accessed from another web service or software like a web browser, while the software and data are stored on servers. Most cloud computing infrastructure consists of reliable services delivered through data centers and built on servers.

High definition television is popular because it offers a brighter, clearer picture resolution and works well with a surround sound audio system. Movie enthusiasts love HDTV because it offers the whole picture on screen rather than cutting off part of the picture at the top or bottom. Screen resolution from high definition TV broadcasts is almost five times that of conventional broadcasts. High definition has double the lines of resolution compared to a traditional analog TV set. While a traditional analog set can only display 525 lines of resolution, HDTV technology takes this one step further. HDTV broadcasts can display 1080 horizontal lines of resolution. This makes a huge difference in the picture clarity and quality.
