Parrot and the Magician

A magician on a cruise liner had a parrot, who'd seen all the magician's tricks a jillion times, long ago having figured out the magic behind the magician's disappearing acts.

The parrot got bored, his owner growing stale and not developing any new tricks that the parrot couldn't figure out.

One night in the middle of the magician's performance, the ship hit an iceberg and sank. Everyone drowned except the magician and the parrot.

The magician managed to swim to a piece of wreckage and climb aboard, immediately collapsing from exhaustion.

Soon afterward, the parrot flew to the magician, perched on the edge of the makeshift raft and stared at the magician.

For a whole day the magician was unconscious, and all this time the parrot didn't take his eyes off him.

Eventually the magician started to stir.

Looking up, he saw the parrot, still eyeing him intently, not even blinking.

Another hour goes by, and finally the parrot squawks, "All right, I give up. What did you do with the ship?

Crosswords: The first book of crosswords was introduced on April 10, 1924 for a steep $1.35 per book and each one came with a freshly sharpened pencil. The publishers, Simon and Schuster, were advised to use an alias for their first run because their advisors were skeptical and thought it might fail, ruining them in the publishing industry. They took the advice and named themselves Plaza Printing Company. Within three months, book sales reached an astonishing 40,000.
Submarine: History's first submarine attack took place in New York Harbor in 1776. The Connecticut inventor David Bushnell called his submarine the Turtle because it resembled two large tortoise shells of equal size joined together. The watertight hull was made of 6-inch-thick oak timbers coated with tar. On September 6, 1776, the Turtle targeted the HMS Eagle, flagship of the British fleet. The submarine was supposed to secure a cask of gunpowder to the hull of the Eagle and sneak away before it exploded. Unfortunately, the Turtle got entangled with the Eagle's rudder bar, lost ballast and surfaced before the gunpowder could be planted.
Oscars: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was established in May 1927 as a non-profit corporation to promote the art of movie making. In the first year, the Academy had 36 members, with Douglas Fairbanks Sir as president. The first Academy Awards, now better known as the Oscars, were presented at a private dinner in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, with less than 250 persons attending. Today, the Academy has over 6 000 honorary members. The Oscar Awards are viewed by more than a billion people on television. The first television broadcast of the Oscars took place in 1953 on black and white TV, telecasted throughout the US and Canada. Telecasting in color begun in 1966, and since 1969, the Oscars have been telecast throughout the world. By the mid-1990s it was telecast in over 100 countries.

Internet Boom Revolutionizing Education

Introduction

The Internet is revolutionizing the education world, making a high-quality education much more accessible. E-Learning is a way for you to get education at home, the library or your office by using technology networks, including the Internet, to connect you with other students and instructors to get a high-quality education.

Many online learning courses use streaming audio and or video to deliver lessons. E-learning also uses many interactive tools including teleconferencing, videoconferencing and shared whiteboards, which allow students to write on the same digital whiteboard.

Our world is changing perceptibly everyday. The technological boom has revolutionized the way humans function. Innovative methods are emerging to substitute the traditional ways of working. We can discern perceptible change in the education sectors, wherein both students and educators are turning to information and technology to improve the quality and speed of learning.
Education has entered a new phase where Internet is fast becoming an important supplement to the traditional means of education like textbooks and classrooms. In the past decade, the shortcomings of classroom learning have become more evident. As a result, the youth is turning towards online guidance to help them cope with the excessive workload, which has eventually made E-learning, live virtual class, online tutor and discussion forums as popular study choices of today's generation.
Education is an investment for future. And online education is the most rapidly growing dimension of the education sector. Higher educational institutes have increasingly embraced online education and the number of students enrolled in distance programs is rapidly rising in colleges and universities throughout the world.
The many advantages of online education have made it an indispensible tool in today's age. It helps provide an unmatched autonomy to the learners. With increasing competition, additional professional qualifications have become mandatory and online courses provide an easy option to pursue the desired additional course with ease. Even the online study materials are easily accessible from anywhere, anytime.
The daily activities and appliances of the future will be internet based, i.e. everything from coffee pots, home lighting, alarm systems, heart pacemakers to having movies on demand, interactive shopping, day care centre, viewing by parents, playing networked games, will have a secure Internet Protocol. Education through internet will be focusing more on edutainment and education on demand, thus witnessing a huge demand for reliable cyber universities. With the education as well as certification becoming internet-based, students will have the privilege of having access to world's best faculties.
The best part about online education is that the classes are quite flexible which even give students the power to control their learning environment, as in moving through their syllabus at their own pace. This nullifies the need for private tutoring as students can easily access the educational sites to get immediate assistance from online tutors. Round the clock availability of online help makes for a thorough understanding of complex subjects, thus, helping the student in securing that crucial extra mark.
The convergence of Internet and education has made learning possible anytime, anywhere. Due to Internet technology, the learning process has become decentralized. Students can live in a remote village but even then can have easy access to the pioneers and experts in whatever field of knowledge they want. This gives them both cost effective and flexible learning support right from the comfort of their homes.
Not only this, online education also incorporates innovative learning tools which make studying out an out a fun process. The elements incorporated in virtual teaching help in transforming any moron subject material, subject and topic into an intriguing one.
It's true that online education offers good quality multimedia tools to make studying a better experience. Infact, the additional usage of colors, images, figures, videos and audio help make difficult concepts all the more interesting and easy to memorize. This approach to study definitely increases the attention span, thus, improving the recall speed and better retention. After all, making learning more fun or interesting is what makes it more effective.
Online education facilitates a more interactive learning environment as students can easily avail the Class on Demand service to interact with the online tutor and as well discuss their doubts and queries without hesitation. These online tutors provide both academic support and counseling to motivate the students who later on try giving their best shot by excelling in their academic pursuits.
Opportunities in E-Learning

E-Learning offers new opportunities for everyone to get the education they want. Online classes include a four-credit college course or degree, corporate or certificate training, high school classes, and even online continuing education classes, like those you might take at night school or a community college. The Internet offers great resources to help you navigate through your e-learning options.

Internet and its effects on education
The internet is the world's best and most efficient venue of education. The time has come where the physical school may be a thing of the past.
The internet boom is something where school children cannot do without. There is such a vast pool of resources available, being updated and upgraded daily, in all fields of studies. Take for example, the Britannica Encyclopedia. Where years ago, one would have to fork out a big sum of money to purchase a set of 20 to 30 volumes of such. Today, the same encyclopedia has gone online and with a fraction of cost, one can access to the latest resources available.
Today, many adults, especially the working class, still aspire to study on to gain knowledge and further skills to enhance the secular career or own businesses. Many online education vendors are churning out a wide variety of studies ranging from applicable education to those of tertiary. Working adults do not have the benefit of time to participate in classroom environment. Today, through the internet, one can choose to study at their own time and pace.

Conclusion

The effects that internet have on education is something that today's society have to reckon with. Internet has bridged the gap between studying and resources. It is something that no other venue can ever substitute yet. Today’s society is in the middle of a technological boom. People can either choose to take advantage of this era, or simply let it pass them by. The Internet is a very powerful tool. It has many advantages; however, people need to be extremely aware of the disadvantages as well.

Very-High-Speed Integrated Circuit Description Language (VHDL)

VHDL is a hardware description language used in electronic design automation to describe digital and mixed-signal systems such as field-programmable gate arrays and integrated circuits. VHDL was originally developed at the behest of the US Department of Defense in order to document the behavior of the ASICs that supplier companies were including in equipment. VHDL was developed as an alternative to huge, complex manuals which were subject to implementation-specific details. The idea of being able to simulate this documentation was so obviously attractive that logic simulators were developed that could read the VHDL files. The next step was the development of logic synthesis tools that read the VHDL, and output a definition of the physical implementation of the circuit. Modern synthesis tools can extract RAM, counter, and arithmetic blocks out of the code, and implement them according to what the user specifies. Thus, the same VHDL code could be synthesized differently for lowest area, lowest power consumption, highest clock speed, or other requirements.

VHDL is frequently used for two different goals: simulation of electronic designs and synthesis of such designs. Synthesis is a process where a VHDL is compiled and mapped into an implementation technology such as an FPGA or an ASIC. Many FPGA vendors have free (or inexpensive) tools to synthesize VHDL for use with their chips, where ASIC tools are often very expensive. Not all constructs in VHDL are suitable for synthesis. While different synthesis tools have different capabilities, there exists a common synthesizable subset of VHDL that defines what language constructs and idioms map into common hardware for many synthesis tools.

Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW)

BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) is an application development platform created by QUALCOMM, originally for CDMA mobile phones, but GSM is now also supported. A software platform that can download and run small programs for playing games, sending messages, sharing photos etc. The main advantage of BREW platforms is that the application developers can easily port their applications between all Qualcomm devices. BREW acts between the application and the wireless device on-chip operating system in order to allow programmers to develop applications without needing to code for system interface or understand wireless applications.

Currently, most developers choose to support both Java ME and BREW, or only Java ME. Java ME may offer a lower cost to market because most carriers allow non-certified Java ME applications to run on their phones. Java ME is widely used in Europe, while BREW is primarily used in the U.S. and Japan. Even in the U.S., Java ME phones have a larger market share than BREW enabled phones. One of the initial advantages of BREW was that Verizon made it easy to purchase applications from the phone, while most Java ME carriers did not. However, most carriers of Java ME phones now offer easy-to-access purchasing portals.
There are now commercial technologies to fully automate porting from Java ME to BREW. This reduces the entry barrier to produce BREW applications by eliminating the need to develop two versions of the same application in both Java and C/C++.
